I kept seeing these little book nook kits all over TikTok.
You know the ones. Tiny cafés, little lights, miniature worlds you build piece by piece.
I didn’t think it was something I’d actually enjoy.
It felt a bit… fiddly.
But I thought I’d give it a go anyway.
I chose the Sunny Café kit by Cute Bee.
It comes as sheets of tiny pieces you have to pop out, like a more delicate version of Lego. Then you follow the instructions and slowly build everything up.
And I mean slowly.
There’s no rushing it.
You can’t skip ahead.
You just do the next small thing in front of you.
What I didn’t expect was how quiet my brain went.
Normally, I’ve got a running list in my head.
Work. Life. Things I should be doing. Things I’ve forgotten. Things I’m behind on.
It doesn’t really stop.
But while I was building this, it did.
Because all I had to focus on was:
this piece
then the next one
then the next
Nothing else could get in.
There was something really satisfying about it.
Not in a big, dramatic way.
In a quiet way.
Like watching something come together that didn’t exist before, just because you kept going.
A tiny coffee grinder.
Little packets.
Flowers on a table.
A cat sitting in the corner.
All these small details that don’t look like much on their own, but together… it becomes something.
And I think that’s the bit that stayed with me.
I’m so used to thinking in big jumps.
Big changes.
Big goals.
Big “I need to sort my life out” energy.
But this was just:
small step
small step
small step
And suddenly there’s a whole little world sitting on my shelf.
When I finished it, I put it next to my books.
Pressed the tiny touch light.
And it lit up this little café scene inside.
I actually smiled. Like properly smiled.
Not because I’d done something impressive.
Just because I’d done something… for me.
If you’re anything like me, your brain doesn’t really switch off.
It’s always trying to stay on top of everything.
Always slightly ahead.
Always slightly overwhelmed.
This didn’t fix that.
But it gave me a pocket of time where none of that mattered.
And that felt like a bit of breathing space.
If you’ve seen these and wondered whether they’re worth trying, I’d say they are.
Not because they’re productive.
Not because they’re useful.
Just because they give your brain somewhere else to go for a while.
If you’re curious, this is the one I used:
[Sunny Café Book Nook Kit]
I didn’t expect to like it.
But I did.
And I think I’ll be doing another one.
If this sounds like you, read this.
