Moomintroll: Winter’s Warmth, and Waking Up to Find Everything Different

moomintroll

Moomintroll wakes up from hibernation and everything has changed. Everyone’s gone. The world is unfamiliar. He doesn’t know what to do with that. If you’ve ever woken up one morning and felt like the ground shifted overnight, you’ll understand why this one landed the way it did for me.

I wasn’t expecting to feel seen by a game about a small white creature in a snowy valley. But here we are.

What it is

A gentle narrative game based on the Moomin stories. Moomintroll wakes mid-winter and has to find connection and warmth in a world that’s gone quiet. Small puzzles. Beautiful art. A story about finding your way back to something familiar when everything around you has shifted. No pressure. No fail states.

Available on PC (Steam) and Nintendo Switch.

Why it helps when you’re running on empty

The puzzles give your brain something to hold without demanding too much. The story gives you something to care about that isn’t your actual life for a while. And the whole thing is built around connection and curiosity rather than urgency. It’s gentle and beautiful and knows exactly what it’s doing.

For anyone who resonates with the idea of waking up and finding everything different. You don’t have to examine why. Just go with it.
